Welcome to InstinctivelyRaw. I’m so glad you stopped by!
My name is Carmen Links and I developed this site because I wanted to help people discover and benefit from eating healthy mostly raw foods. I have been eating and making raw foods since 1996 when I was first introduced to it. I fell in love with the concept of eating fresh enzyme-rich foods that not only nourished me but also added so much flavor and interest to my life. And it’s been a love affair ever since. At that time, I was actively involved in fund-raising for charitable organizations and hosted a number of highly successful raw food events. In fact, I organized the very first raw food event ever in my county. It was an unknown lifestyle to everyone I knew at that time but took off like a rocket once the word got out. Raw food has evolved and grown since those days from an obscure philosophy to a sophisticated cuisine with new products and preparation techniques continually being introduced.
Along the way I’ve also evolved in my view of raw foods. I once felt that 100 percent raw was the best and only way to live and even subscribed to the philosophy that “cooked food was poison”. While I still believe that we should eat primarily raw foods, I no longer recommend an exclusively raw diet. It’s simply not realistic or even desirable to expect myself or anyone else to live up to that standard on a daily basis. Whole nourishing natural foods mean different things to different people, and at times can be a controversial and heated topic. To me it means simply eating mostly raw foods and starting out with as many raw ingredients as possible even when cooking. Our name “instinctivelyraw” refers to the fact that since all of our food starts out raw it’s natural for us to eat a good portion of our food that way.
I won’t hand you any dogma, rules, cultish mandates or promises of utopia. I had to experiment a lot to find the right mix for myself and along the way experienced many road blocks. All of these pitfalls helped me come to many realizations and conclusions of what is best for me. I could have avoided a lot of grief had I compromised a bit more and followed my own instincts. My best advice after all these years to you is to follow your own path always with the intent of enjoying the journey along the way, leaving yourself open to new ideas and information, and making modifications where needed. To me that is the sane, healthy approach to holistic living. I have benefited immensely from eating raw plant-based foods and present information on these pages based solely on my own personal experiences and the knowledge I’ve attained through my many years of research and application.
While this is primarily a raw food recipe website, I will occasionally include cooked dishes for those transitioning to raw foods and/or just looking to incorporate more healthy foods into their daily lives. Also I happen to enjoy them. While I still support those who follow a 100% raw food lifestyle, as I mentioned I myself do not. I eat mostly raw plant-based foods and include some healthy cooked foods both for variety and because it makes me feel more balanced and in tune with my surroundings. This may change at some point but for now it works for me. That’s the beauty of following your own “raw” instincts and becoming more aware of your nutritional needs as you grow and age.
I hope that you find the information presented on these pages useful and the website easy to maneuver around. It was created to help you grow and learn in your quest for good health.
